Why is important to dream

The definition of dream is an aspiration, a goal or something we are aiming for. We all dream; we all aim and target something that we don’t have, and would like to pursue. All those desires and goals are important to keep us moving forward and motivate us to keep trying.

The dream that is an aspiration. When we heard the word dream, the majority of us think about a famous speech delivered in 1963 by Martin Luther King. He delivered his speech “I have a dream” during a time where segregation was the norm and it was impossible to imaging one day people from different color of skin will walk together on the streets. Dr. King fought for his dream; he dreamed that this nation would not judged by the color of their skin. He fought for his dream and thanks to him and other people who had the same dream we live a nation where the color of our skin doesn’t matter anymore.

The dream that becomes a goal. In 1995, things were not going well at home. My dad and mom were working, but they could not keep up paying for all my siblings’ college tuition and mine school tuition. My siblings dropped out of college because their tuition could not be paid, and my mom decided to cross the border to come and work as an illegal immigrant. Her dream was that all her kids would be able to go to college and obtain an education. She didn’t mind that she didn’t speak the language or could drive (two things that are consider being very important if we want to live in this country). She did it and with the money she saved, my siblings could go to college and I finished high school.

The dream that was aimed and achieved. Thomas Edison’s dream was to experiment and innovate. Despite of his deafness, he persisted on looking for better and better jobs that allowed him to follow his passion, experimenting. When he was younger, he got a job as a telegrapher and requested to work on night shifts so he could experiment during the day. He invented not only the light bulb after more than 3000 designs; he also invented the phonograph. Thomas Edison is one of the greatest American Inventors.

Dreams are important. There are the base, the principle, the motor that keep us going and push us to keep trying one more time. Dreams can become true; we just need to persist. What is your dream?
